Baby Safety – Around Open Water

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

From the Desk of Ceci Davis

Water safety for your baby. Boy this summer has been very hot just about everywhere!

To cool both you and the baby, you may be going to the beach, lake, river or somewhere where water is involved.

I live by the ocean and unfortunately some children have drowned because mom, dad or whoever was taking care of the child did not take proper precautions.

Traveling with your Baby

Traveling is stressful for baby and you.  Travel is a busy and stressful time. If you are dragging baby around with you, it will also be stressful times for baby.

If you are going to a family reunion, all those people could make baby get over active.  If you are in a cold climate, make sure that you don’t overheat the baby’s bedroom. This will cause baby not to sleep comfortably.

Traveling with baby by plane is something that would make me shudder.

Now a-days there are so many travel delays that you better be well prepared for. Recently my brother had to go to another State on business. He usually takes his wife and very young child.

He was so thankful that they did not go along this time because he had so many delays, layovers and lost connections that he did not even know how they could have made it through a very tough time.

And now I invite you to read the article I wrote on traveling with your baby. Just click the link below for great tips.

Baby Sleep Problems? – Sleep Tips below

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Most babies do not sleep through the night for many reasons. Sometimes it could be due to an illness or discomfort as in colic.

But some of the sleep problems could be caused by you! You don’t do this on purpose, you just did not know. You probably got advice from family and friends on how to solve the nighttime baby sleep problem.

There are so many techniques given to new mom’s on how to help their baby sleep longer at night.

The two main things in my opinion is, first of all not to be playing with the baby in way that causes excitement just before bedtime. The second would be not to turn on bright lights in the baby’s room when you go in at night to feed or change the baby. Your baby needs to learn when it is nighttime.

Baby Sling

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

Babies have died from being carried in a sling. Bottom line, if your baby is under four months old, DO NOT carry your baby in a sling.

Your baby craves a lot of attention from you. There is a way that you can have your baby with you all day long and hands free.

You can cook, shop, clean the house, and cook while your baby is snuggled up against you.

There are several carriers on the market that allow you to do this. Some have been recalled. But there are lots of ways that you can wear your baby.

One of my favorites is the sling. But as I mentioned above, if under four months old, DO NOT use this.

Here is a short list of the benefits to your baby and yourself. Be aware that your back has to be in good shape! If you have back problems like I do, you better pass on this.

1.  Your baby could cry up to 50% less than most babies.

2. Your baby will be less bored.

3. Wearing your baby will stimulate her/his brain!

The latest information about some baby slings by Infantino are being recalled.

The name of the sling is “SlingRider”. If you own this product, please check for the recall. Remember what I said not too long ago, if your baby is under four months old. Do Not use a sling.

Parenting Tip for the Week

When you are having your breakfast, lunch or dinner at home, please have your baby there also.  Even if your baby is not having a meal it is important for socialization and bonding with the family.

Be sure to use safe practices as to the placement of your baby. Do not put your baby in a bouncy chair or anything on the table where your baby could be knocked off the table by you or others.

This almost happened to my niece because her mother was not thinking.

If by chance you have not received the Free Baby Sleep Tips program, you can click over on the right for the mini guide.

Health Coverage Plans

A new bill signed into law by President Obama makes millions of children eligible to receive health insurance.

If your kids do not have health insurance, they are likely to be eligible, even if you are working and even if you have applied in the past and been turned down.

Your state (and every state) has its own program, with its own eligibility rules, but in many states, uninsured children 18 years old and younger, whose families earn up to $44,500 a year (for a family of four) are eligible for free or low-cost health insurance that pays for

Doctor visits, Dental care, Prescription medicines, Hospitalizations and much more.
