Baby sleep problems are a universal challenge. Do you know how to help your baby sleep through the night? You will when you read and use these 6 simple rules.
Rule 1 – Don’t let your baby become overly excited before bedtime.
A couple of hours before you plan to put your baby to bed make sure your baby is not playing excitable games. Ask any family members to not play with baby in a way that will cause excitement. You know how hard it is to sleep if you don’t do relaxing things before bedtime. It is the same for your baby.
Rule 2 – Don’t have toys in bed not related to your baby’s bedtime.
When you put your baby to bed, remove all toys that may be in the crib that are not related to bedtime. Your baby should only have the thing that you or your baby chose to represent bedtime as mentioned below.
Rule 3 – Do teach your baby how to self-sooth self to sleep and associate certain objects with bedtime.
Your baby should have a toy or favorite blankie to take to bed. This way when your baby wakes up during the night baby could reach for it and go back to sleep. Also consider the use of a pacifier. It has been proven most useful. In fact, a study by the Kaiser foundation found that it could help in the prevention of SIDS.
Rule 4 - Do set up a same time same place routine for bedtime established for you baby.
As I mentioned in other articles, set up some type of a routine to represent bedtime. So, no matter what, put your baby to bed at the same time every night no matter what. Prepare your baby for bedtime in the same room every time.
Rule 5 – Do tank up feeding during the day.
Feed your baby enough during the day. Now I’m not saying to force feed like a goose. But, if your baby wants to play all day and not eat enough, your baby will want to eat during the night instead of sleep.
Rule 6 – Make your baby comfy.
There is so much cute clothes out there for you baby, but, it might not all be comfortable. If your baby is fusing and s/he has been diapered and fed, try a different pajama set. If the one already on is snug, try one that is a little looser.
So I’d like to encourage you to use these tips.
And I would also like to offer you free access to a 5 week baby sleep tips mini guide at http://www.freebabysleeptips.com to learn even more ways to help your baby sleep through the night.

Traveling is stressful for baby and you. Travel is a busy and stressful time. If you are dragging baby around with you, it will also be stressful times for baby. If you are going to a family reunion, all those people could make baby get over active. If you are in a cold climate, make sure that you don’t overheat your home. This will cause baby not to sleep comfortably.
Also if the room is too hot it becomes unsafe as far as SIDS goes. Keep the room temp at about 72 degrees.
Traveling with baby by plane is something that would make me shudder.
Now a-days there are so many travel delays that you better be well prepared for. Recently my brother had to go to another State on business. He usually takes his wife and very young child.
He was so thankful that they did not go along this time because he had so many delays, layovers and lost connections that he did not even know how they could have made it through a very tough time.
Once you are on the plane give baby something to eat or drink during takeoff and landing. Offer a pacifier at the very least and do wake baby up during the take off and landing and do the above to help with any ear issues.
Okay, here it is night time and the kid is not going to sleep.
What to do!?
Here are a few tips.
* Give baby a warm bath.
* At the fist signs of fussiness, put baby to bed.
* Try rocking baby in your arms or rocking chair.
* Try walking around with baby in your arms.
* I read about CD’s that have nothing but white noise on them that help baby settle down. There was one that was a sound of a hair dryer and another of a vacuum cleaner! Go figure.
* Or you can get a music CD made specially to help baby sleep.
*If you have already set up a night time routine, that means it is time for bed and sleep for baby as suggested in some of my other articles, DON’T change that routine, whatever it takes.
At the very least do your best to keep baby from getting over excited during the day during these very busy and fun times.
I invite you to give thought to baby’s needs during travel.

Do you pick up your baby as soon as the crying starts at night?
Believe it or not, the kid might not even be really awake! I know I did this all the time with my kid. I did not know any better.
I learned that if you rub the tummy, the kid just might stop crying and go back to sleep.

Question: When should I give my baby cow’s milk?
According to Dr. Benjamin Spock, the answer would be never! You maybe perplexed about this. But your baby should drink mother’s milk. It helps to keep your baby healthy. The World Health Organization suggests that your baby should be breastfed for at least two years (ouch). And the first six months should be nothing but breast milk.
You should know that this helps to provide protection against diarrhea and respiratory tract infections. Many times I hear of mom’s complaining about their baby having diarrhea and found that the baby was not being breast fed but was on formula.
Studies have found that babies who drank formula developed rashes, stomach problems and even breathing problems like asthma. I happen to fall into that category as well as my sister.
Do you know that humans are the only species that drink milk after being weaned from their mother’s breast milk? Think about this, you don’t see grown mammals drinking milk, they get their nutrition from the plants, grains or killing other animals if they are hunters.
My nephew was very allergic to cow’s milk. He had severe eczema. Poor baby he looked like a monster. A soy based formula and soy milk was recommended. My sister tried it and his allergy cleared up. He grew up to be a very strong healthy man.
There is too much of the following problems;
• ADD, ADHD (notmilk.com)
• MS (see the Journal of Immunology, April 1, 2001)
• Childhood diabetes ( see Diabetes Care 1994;17(12))
• Too many babies dying of SIDS (see The Lancet, vol. 2, 7160, November 19, 1960)
• Cancer in children
• Children that are obese
• Autism (Autism, 1999, 3)
• To much ill health in our children
I see children with these issues everyday no matter where I go and as part of my job. Some illness’ that were a rarity are now common place. Why?
Could it be because of the early introduction of cow’s milk? A food that was created for baby cows not human babies?
What are your alternatives? The best opinion I have run across is to provide breast milk until your baby is old enough to eat foods that are rich in calcium. “There is no upper limit to the duration of breastfeeding and no evidence of psychological or developmental harm from breastfeeding into the third year of life or longer” according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Breast milk is just as nutritious after the first year.
Oh, a friend of mine makes almond milk from raw organic almonds. It is fantastic. We use it to make smoothies. Just strain it to get rid of the graininess.
There are many great substitutes for the pus filled, hormonal, antibiotic laden milk. Here is a short list.
• Human breast milk
• Almonds
• Apricots (dried) You can reconstitute in clean water.
• Beans
• Raw broccoli
• Raw carrots
• Figs (dried) You can reconstitute in clean water.
• Lettuce (NOT iceberg)
• Cashews
• Florida oranges
• Peanuts (if no allergies to them)
• Baked sweet potatoes
• Butternut squash
Get yourself a book or go online to find foods rich in calcium. It is worth the trouble to protect your baby. Also a great paperback book is ‘How to Raise a Healthy Child in Spite of Your Doctor’ by Robert S. Mendelsohn MD.
By the way, another dangerous product I found out about was Whey. This consists of bovine blood proteins, Serum albumen and Lactalbumen. Dead white blood cells. Hormonal residues including estrogen and progesterone. GROSS! And it is now being added to baby food! Please read the labels carefully. Make sure you are not feeding this to your baby.
