Babies can get burns very easily. If you have ever burnt your hand or any place  on your body you know how painful it can be. It can also be devastating.  Here is a short list to help you protect your baby.

  • Keep electrical cords out of reach – you know how curious babies are.
  • Keep hot food and liquids away from the edge of tables and counters.
  • Keep the temperature of the water heater at 120 degrees max.
  • Please do not hold your baby while you are cooking, nor have your baby in a sling.
  • Please do not smoke anywhere near your baby.

Babies – How to Keep Your Baby Safe

Child abduction is probably a thought that you would rather not let cross your mind. However, it happens.

Whenever you go out shopping, especially to the mall, do your best to take someone with you. The sad fact is that you must keep your eyes and or hands on your baby when you are out in public.

So if you bring along someone you know to help keep an eye on your baby while you shop that would be most excellent.

My sister-in-law mentioned that she leaves her two year old in a play area of a store when she shops in it. I was horrified!!

By the way, have you notice how people like to come and see your baby when you are out and about? If a person should say “Oh, your baby is so cute, can I hold her/him?” Just say NO!!

Don’t care if you offend them or not. It has been discovered that children who have been taken began with a contact out at a mall or other public place.

Changing a Diaper in Public – How to do it the right way

How to Change a Diaper in Public

from wikiHow – The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Going on outings with your baby can be difficult. You need to care for the baby’s needs but in completely different and often awkward scenarios. Whether you are going to your local retail park or the beech, changing your baby’s diaper can be especially troublesome.

Steps

  1. Look out for Koala Baby Changing Stations. Some public places have Koala Baby Changing Stations, which pull out from walls, to change your baby’s diaper on in restrooms. If this is the case, change the diaper on this.
  2. If there isn’t a changing station, always change the baby’s diaper in your car before you enter or spend time at the destination. It may be difficult to do this, especially in small cars, but try to rest the baby on the back seat and open the back seat door fully so you can access the baby. With the baby resting on the car’s back seat, change him/her as you would normally.
  3. At the destination, if your baby soils his/hers diaper, go back to the car if it is possible to change it. Otherwise, find a secluded area to do the job. This is possible if you are in a park, beech or other wide-spread area.
  4. For other places, if the diaper is a wet one, change it discreetly. Like at airports with no changing station, change a wet diaper on seats or tables where little people are around. If the diaper is of poo, change it in a restroom by just lying the baby down on the floor or use a disposable changing pad.
  5. Regardless of where or how you change the diaper, always dispose of it as you normally would by using a diaper sack and putting it in a public waste bin.

Tips

  • Try to cover the baby’s parts – you never know whose around.
  • Try to always change the baby in the car as Plan A. It is so much easier, more private and less embarrassing to do it this way.
  • Don’t fret- most public places, like shopping malls, have baby changing stations to use nowadays.

Warnings

  • Never change a baby on a restaurant table or where food is being prepared. Would you like to eat of that food prep. area or eat at a restaurant having to endure a dirty diaper stench from the table by you?
  • When changing a diaper openly in public, beware for passers-by to disapprove or even say something or ask you to stop. Some are totally against this sort of thing.

Things You’ll Need

  • A clean diaper
  • A packet of wet wipes
  • A diaper sack
  • A smelly baby
  • A cool head

Okay mom’s, how about this mistake. Are you quilty of making it?

So it is evening and the family is home and they want to play with the baby. Do you let them play games that excite the baby just before bedtime?

It is great that the family wants to play with the baby BUT the activities should be RELAXING for the baby!
Tell Dad not to play airplane or catch the baby in the air before bedtime. If you have other kids, let them know not to exited the baby.

The best thing would be to hold baby and read. Clear out the crib i.e. get the toys out. Give baby a favorite toy to settle down with.

baby in crib

Are you letting your baby just lie around in the crib or baby carrier as much as possible?

It is tempting to just let the child lie around so you can do other things. However, this is not in your best interest. Your child needs to be active when awake. This could mean better sleep at night.

Don’t you sleep better when you have been out all day running around?

And one more thing here, your child should associate the crib as a place to sleep. So if the baby is not taking a nap or being put to bed for the night, baby should not be in the crib.

 Mistake number 1

Are you making the room nice and dark and quiet when your baby naps during the day?

You may think this is a good idea in hopes that your child will sleep longer so you can catch a break. BUT it really isn’t helpful in the long run – i.e. when bedtime rolls around.

When your baby takes a nap during the day have plenty of daylight in the house. Let normal household and street noises exist.

The less time your infant sleeps during the day could mean longer sleep at night.
