Mother’s Day
Do you know how Mother’s Day got started?
It appears it all began in the 1880’s and connected to the sons who had died during the Civil War. The women involved were connected to peace groups.
Would you believe that Mother’s Day is an actual “Holiday” it was set aside as a day for American citizens to show the flag in honor of those mothers whose sons had died in war. How appropriate it still is in these days.
Carnations became the flower of the day. Mainly because it was the founder, Anna Jarvis’ mother’s favorite flower.
If your mother is still living you would wear a red carnation. If your mother has passed on a white one would be worn.
My mom passed on a few years ago but before her death we all showered her with flowers and gifts we cooked up a great dinner where all who loved her came over to celebrate.
I miss celebrating that holiday.
